How to earn Club hours:
Sign up for NHS Club hours using our calendar. Locate official NHS events we set up for you in the community. If it is on the calendar, it is a Club hour. If it is something you learn about on the NHS website, it is a Club hour.
You need to earn 7 Club hours each quarter. If you earn more than 7 Club hours you may transfer them to Individual hours.
For example: if you have only 4 Individual hours but you earned 10 Club hours, we will credit you for 7 Individual hours and 7 Club hours.

How to get individual community service hours
- Any activity where you get paid for doing something does NOT count for individual hours.
- Babysitting does not count for individual hours (even if you don’t get paid).
- Volunteering means that you are doing something to help your community.
You may not get more than four (4) individual hours for any one service opportunity. It is important you spread yourself around the community.
Here are some ideas:
Do some yard work for a neighbor.
Paint for someone without accepting money.
Wash someone's car.
Walk your neighbor's dog.
Clean windows in your neighborhood.
Offer to tutor a young family friend in a subject you are an expert in.
Go to a senior citizens home and hang out with some senior citizens.
Help out at your church.
Help out with any organizations or businesses your family is affiliated with.
- Volunteer at a local nursing home – call ahead to speak with someone to make sure you meet their requirements.
- Volunteer at a hospital – call ahead to speak with someone to make sure you meet their requirements.
- Some teachers need help setting up at the beginning of the school year, and help toward the end of the school year – maybe you could help them grade, clean up, set up new activities, etc.
